Not much "ice " for the place

This product wanted to solve my problem but didn't. I had three stacked silicone ice cream trays in the freezer and wanted to downsize them to one that could make the same amount of ice cream in 1/3 the time. The footprint of this thing is about three stacked ice trays. I poured water as instructed. Put it in the freezer for 6 hours and when I opened it, cracked the plastic cylinder and pulled out, the number of ice "cubes" produced was equal to ONE ice tray. I know because I poured the ice from it into one of the ice cube trays and it was almost full. I put the dice in "quotes" because they are fancy dice. They are the equivalent of crushed ice. Tiny shards, actually shards, like hemispheres, but not very pretty looking. This is probably enough to fill two small glasses. I have ice from my other trays by the door so I can casually add to drinks. These shards are so small I can't keep them there and I had to put a small bowl in the freezer to store the shards. When I got home from work, the fragments coalesced into a bowl that I had to thaw sufficiently to smash with a pickaxe. So finally. If you want to free up space in your freezer and eliminate three ice cube trays instead of one - THIS INVENTION IS NOT FOR YOU. If you want to unwind at the end of the day with a glass or two of crushed ice, and that's what you need in Ice Cream, then you've come to the right place. You just have to refill it every night. I think I'll use it to chill wine bottles when I'm on a trip or something because the wine bottle can sit comfortably in the center while you can sprinkle splinters on it to keep it cool. Otherwise, it's much cooler in form than actual function.

Pros
  • Handy thing
Cons
  • So far so good
