I really enjoyed using this heater as I was looking for one that was shallow and big enough for my large mugs and also had temperature control. Unfortunately, I immediately noticed a very high pitched sound. It seemed to start and stop and I realized it was making a noise every time it turned on the heat to maintain the temperature. As I used it on my bedside table to warm up my evening tea while reading, the sound was right next to my ear. I'm sensitive to noise and it was like a needle scratching my eardrum. Unless it's sitting close to your head or being obscured a bit by ambient noise, it probably won't be noticeable. It can also be so high that many people can't hear it, but since I can I thought I should warn potential buyers.
