Annoyingly mediocre, but a lot of power

You may have to done some searching for TENS and EMS units, that with the myriad of supposed options in the sub $100 range. they all pretty much look the same and come down to three or four types. Of the rechargeable USB there are essentially two types . This is what I called the android phone type and there are two sub-units one with the buttons on the front and one with the buttons on the side. The other type is the flip phone / feature phone type unit of which there are also two types but they are both essentially the same. Do you know it's all carry different branding and have several different idiosyncrasies each but they're all essentially the same cheaply made, mediocre units so generally you're best off getting the cheapest one.We careful because some have phono plugs and some have the older style coaxial plugs for the electrode leads. Typically coaxial plugs go with the pigtail type electrodes and many plugs go with the snap on type. But this is not always the case. This unit comes with snap on electrodes which I find much more annoying and difficult to work with than the pigtail type, and it has the 3.5 mm miniplug also known as a regular small headphone jack. The unit does not allow the back light to stay on long enough to be useful but at least the light is muted rather than some of the electric blue retina burn out black lights on the other units. The unit has 12 meds in a separate icons for each mode which is a plus because the sub meds are very confusing but the icons don't make a whole lotta sense and it doesn't tell you which ones are tens and which ones are EMS . So keep the manual handy until you memorize the modes that you need. Acupuncture in massaging icons or at least clearly defined . The unit allows you to have separate minutes for each bank and separate power levels for each bank and that is a plus because some of them only do one or the other or neither. The cheap plastic screen technically is a touchscreen but it's very unresponsive and you're better off using the buttons and I can't tell you how annoyingly short the back light is and it does not allow you to extend this . Like all of these new type of tens units it feels very cheaply made of garbage, toy quality plastic. It's really feels like something that should cost five dollars and not 45 . The biggest plus to this unit is its power output which is more than five times as much as all the flip phone type tens units . The battery out put 5 V at 500 mA as opposed to all of the flip phone units like the nursing home which are 3.7 V at 115 mA. The power output is 1 mA at .5 V. This represents almost six times the battery life as the smaller units three times the maximum power output, and you can clearly feel that, yes unit is capable about putting significantly more power to the electrodes than the smaller flip phone type tens units. Big downside of this unit is that you cannot charge it while you use it but with such a bigger battery it's much less of an issue. I just attempt to pretend that the touchscreen doesn't work at all and just use the buttons to cycle through all my options. To be clear let's go through the things that can be different with all of these units that looks so much the same : Some have micro USB some have mini USB Some allow use while charging and some do notSome let you have separate mode per output lead Some let you have a separate intensity per output leadSome have touchscreen, Some do notSome have an icon for every mode and some have "sub modes" - note the subhead seem to be of little relation to the parent mode, making understading the operation more difficultSome have that disturbing bright blue backlight some have a more muted back light None have all of the features that I particularly prefer but almost all of them fall into the above categories. Virtually all of the new ones have indecipherable icons and the new style tens units come with the snap on electrodes. The only one that actually listed the part of your body you would actually use each mode on, and the type of pain,( even had a little picture of where to put the electrodes as if you didn't know where your arms were) used three AAA batteries so I wasn't going to even go there.I settled on this unit mostly because of the power output and battery size, but it is significantly larger than the flip phone feature phone types. I soldered some mini plugs onto my old pigtail leads so I could use the pigtail electrodes.
