I had an A10 and returned it for an A12 because A12 amp tubes have a lot of twist options. And yet the sound quality of this amp leaves a lot to be desired, even straight out of the box. It's the equivalent, if not better, of the PS Audio BHK 250 I had before, which cost a whopping $7,500. What makes the A12 so good is that my new speakers require very little power to run. I ventured the Klipsch Forte IV and they will be my last speakers. With a sensitivity of 99, a 6-watt amp can drive them more than comfortably. Working alongside the A12, the new generation of Klipsch doesn't display the extravagance or other criticisms that have been leveled at the brand for years. Power cable, connection and speaker cable. I'm below primo in all these things. You may not believe they have any meaning. However, cable and good fuel is not a faith-based initiative. If I were to replace them with standard gears, which I have done, the full potential of the gearing would not be realised. For me, the A12 was the final step in getting rid of expensive components. Low sensitivity speakers require power, and power requires large and expensive hardware. My new speakers cost $6,500 along with the Burson DAC and A12, which is a significant savings over the $20,000 that Focals and PS Audio cost. Selling the old is more expensive than paying for the new. I hope your conclusion is that while the A12 more than holds its own, surrounding it with highly sensitive speakers and quality hardware unlocks its full potential. That doesn't happen with every amp. When do you realize you're in audio nirvana? If you have a hard time going to bed because you want to listen to a piece of music, sometimes before sunrise on weekends. Luckily I don't share walls with roommates. The A12 is loud enough to fill my room and wake up the neighbors.
