I have had this lens for 3 years now and have used it on my Nikon D40, D5000 and now my D7000. This is a great lens with a wide range of coverage from 18mm to 200mm. I use this lens about 75% of the time I use a camera. My other lenses are 35mm/f1.8, 50mm/f1.4, 18-55mm, 55-200mm and 28-105mm. I carry two lenses with me. I have used this lens for landscapes (nature), buildings, flowers, portraits of people, group shots with many people (18mm is convenient), events (sports, concerts, conferences, etc.) and this is my main lens. when I travel or go on vacation. There are 3 switches on the lens: M (manual)/A (automatic), VR-On/Off and Normal/Active. I keep my lens in auto mode with VR On and Normal. I've used active mode with great results. For example, I set the lens to active mode when I'm a passenger in the car. Then I can take pictures of buildings etc. while my husband is driving. Active mode causes the subject(s) I'm focusing on to stand still. In my version, the lens slides. This isn't a problem for me as I try not to zoom out while walking. If I leave the lens in the normal or 18mm position, it stays in place. This lens works well with my D7000. In low light, the D7k does a great job. With this lens I set my D7k to ISO no higher than 3200 and get great results. With this combination of camera and lens, the camera can get pretty heavy. This isn't necessarily a bad thing as it feels well balanced in my hands. When using my D40 with this lens, I notice and feel a slight imbalance between the camera and the lens. I'm spoiled with my D7k. :) I use the Crumpler Industry Disgrace strap with my D7k and this 18-200mm lens. Well padded and well constructed, this harness reduces stress on your neck. Overall, I've taken a lot of great shots with this lens. I recommend this lens with the D7k because it feels good in the hand and is well balanced.
