Review on Cable Matters Premium Aluminum USB-C Hard Drive Enclosure - 10Gbps Gen 2, Thunderbolt 4 Compatible, MacBook Pro/Air, USB-C/USB-A Cables by Bernard Larjin

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent Value for USB 3.1 gen2 Enclosure

***Upgrade*** Enclosure comes with two (2) cables. USB C to C cable and USB 3 to C cable. At this price you should expect them to fail after a few flexes. A stronger cable will cost more than the case itself. The USB-CC cable was so bad that it didn't send enough power to the case right out of the box. The status LED didn't light up and the drive didn't mount securely unless I unplugged/plugged it in a few times. After replacing the cable with a known-good cable, the drive is securely installed and the status LED is lit. If you have a computer with a USB-C port, the power cord that came with your computer may support data transfer. I suspect that at this price point most users will just want to use the extra 2.5" drive that comes in the parts basket. a USB-C connection is all we need. Installation was very easy. Simply open, insert into drive, close, insert. I had an old Macbook converted to an iMovie editing station with an SSD as the internal drive. I reinstalled an old spinning hard drive when I was recycling it with Apple. I ended up with a Crucial 1T 6G SSD that needed a new home. Attached is a screenshot of its performance at a 1GB load. According to the USB test blogs, this is comparable to a similarly configured commercially available drive from a well-known Korean manufacturer.
