Pretty sad in Printers & Supplies

Pretty sad - that's putting it mildly. I read reviews about the difficulty connecting this printer to Wi-Fi, but I figured I could handle it. After reading the reviews I knew I shouldn't spend more than 20 minutes setting it up over Wi-Fi. I connected it to the USB printer cable I was using and set it up on a Win 7 computer running my former Brother printer. Everything was going pretty well and he wanted to install a firmware update. OK . I started this and after about 40 minutes the setup bar hadn't moved 1/10th of the way. I quit and noticed that another window appeared directly below. At this point I was fed up with anything else and just wanted to see if it would be printed. And so it happened. I went to the Android app I installed on the first try and it said I needed to update the firmware. Great I thought. When I said "yes" to the upgrade, it asked for a password. Nowhere in the manual or on the disk was I told the default password. A quick google search told me it was initpass. Have pity on the people who don't know and don't drop it. I am usually very satisfied with technical subjects and give a positive rating. I really think it prints well and once plugged in it works fine. At this point the technology should be pretty much plug and play. Shame on Brother for the poor quality documentation. I will be using the printer for a few weeks and will post an update on Wi-Fi connectivity and print quality. Update about three weeks after purchase. I had no problem with not wanting to connect after sleeping. Prints well from various devices. I'm not changing the star count because I'm still unimpressed by the crappy documentation. Another update. I downgraded the rating to one star because it started disconnecting from the network and had to keep resetting the wifi. Again, most technology should be plug-and-play. Print quality is still good, toner usage is minimal, but network issues are unacceptable.

Pros
  • Print as mobile as you are. Print wirelessly from desktop, laptop, smartphone and tablet.
Cons
  • I don't remember
