Review on Westcott IPoint Pencil Sharpener 15912 by Amber Perez

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Exciting, catchy effort, not worth it

I think our family of a preschool teacher and two sons (11 and 9) makes the perfect lab for checking pencil sharpeners. I once joked that our family uses so many pencils that we plant seedlings to alleviate the guilt. This is our third or maybe fourth Revain sharpener review. What makes the Acme Westcott iPoint USB sharpener unique is that it can be powered by either batteries (4 AA) or a USB cable. What makes the Acme Westcott iPoint USB sharpener disappointing is that it lacks a motor and blades — weight — for anything but everyday use. I opened a pack of pencils and sharpened each one. The sharpener worked the first four with gentle but slow grinding. Sharpening the rest was catchy, the power of pinching and plucking. I was trying to imagine a situation where I would need a portable sharpener, powered by either batteries or a USB cable. Maybe it is intended for business travelers. Of course, but I would carry a packet of sharpened pencils in my briefcase. Maybe it's for an office worker who doesn't have an outlet nearby. Of course, but that's another reason to get up from the table and stretch your legs once in a while. To be honest I don't want pencil shavings and dust around my keyboard and computer. I recommend two more pencil sharpeners, both of which can hold six different pencil sizes and come with shaving bowls. 5 Stars: X-ACTO SharpX Principal Electric Pencil Sharpener - 550cc Blade Motor 1 x 9 inch). For classroom use, I rated SharpX Principal one star higher than QuietSharp6. USB connectors are being developed in a hurry for many products. Some work (I have a great USB powered fan) and some don't (coffee warmer never gets hot). The Acme Westcott iPoint USB Pencil Sharpener falls into the second category. I would rather plug my pencil sharpener into an outlet than use AA batteries and a USB cable. Rating: one star. USB connectors are being developed in a hurry for many products.
