I bought two of these bowls for my cats, both older. My only cat (11 years old) is still recovering from surgery on his left knee and has not been able to walk on his hind legs for several months. Most of the time I help him get on the tray. However, there were a few times when he climbed in and out of the tray on his own. Because he's lower in the front, he gets into the box, and because he's tall and handsome, he has a lot of freedom of movement, even without the ability to use his hind legs. My other cat who is 13 years old has no problem using the litter box, she seems to have an easier time getting in and out of the litter box. Even with the bottoms, the stuffing stays in the box and doesn't get thrown outside when they cover their cases. 😺
