Review on Tiger Tool Heavy Duty Class 6-8 U Joint Pullers: The Original Inventor, Proudly Made in North America by Brennan Buckley

Works but be careful

I used this tool on a 2003 Dodge 3500 4WD front axle universal joint. The tool is definitely heavy and I can't complain about its strength and durability, this piece is impressive. It doesn't work that well for this particular truck. American Axle universal joints for this axle are pressed to very tight tolerances. In addition, they rust and jam. This tool will pop them out, but if you're not very careful and use a flashlight to heat the fork (use lots of heat) you will end up damaging the fork by popping out the gimbal connectors. You'd think a huge, heavy-duty fork wouldn't flex, but I ruined 2 sets of U-joints trying to slide them back into the fork because the lugs on the fork were splayed apart and misaligned. It's not the tool's fault that this happens, it's just doing its job. In fact, the tool is so strong that it broke one of the U-joint caps when I pushed it out. I had to use a flashlight to pry the rest of the lid out, but the tool did the job right. I ended up buying a replacement axle shaft with the spider already installed because the forks on the old axle shaft were damaged when the spider was pressed out. Because of this, I paid almost $200 for this tool and it was a waste of my time. In terms of value for money, this tool is way overpriced as there are other tools out there that do the same thing.
