Plugged in and the drivers will load automatically on my Win 7 and 10 computer. Haven't used the hard drive at all. My CHIRP software recognized the new COM after only one reboot on my Windows 7 machine and finally after two reboots on my Windows 10 machine. My Baofeng UV-5RA is programmed on the first day! Additional Notes: If using CHIRP, increase the radio volume as specified in the software and install in the Program Files (x86). First I installed it in a separate folder and CHIRP didn't find the COM port. After switching to Program File (x86) and a few reboots, it found the COM port associated with that cable.
