That's a good idea, but not really practical. The scratching areas, while cute, are low enough that cats can't reach them. They would have to lie on their stomachs and lift their legs a few inches to scratch, which they don't do with a vertical scratching surface. (Now if it were the horizontal bottom front of my sofa, they could certainly slide along the back with their paws up and scratch it.) They just don't have a good chance of scratching where they're supposed to. If I had really thought about it I would have realized before I bought it, but I was tempted by all the great reviews about it. I poured some catnip on it and my cats licked it and lay on the base for a while. But other than that, it's just another piece of furniture in my living room.
