Review on ๐Ÿพ Silver Satin Steel Two-Prong Cork Puller with Cover - Monopol Westmark Germany by Darion Wooten

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Fantastic specialist corkscrew that takes practice and some care

Still my favorite product in its class. One star deducted because I disagree with the manufacturer: you cannot use the Monopoly sampler to replace the cork in a bottle as stated on the packaging. If the cork is loose, you can put it back in the bottle without this tool; when things get tight, you run the risk of cracking the bottle with this tool, as other reviewers have vividly demonstrated, or at least getting upset that it barely works. Areas of application of Monopol: For brittle, dry or simply old corks. These are the ones that will snap, crumble, or break out with a standard waiter's wrench or other spiral tools. With the monopoly, I was able to salvage very long, old Bordeaux corks that fell apart on the table after taking them out. The monopoly might work well with newer corks, but with practice, the waiter's key will work faster and easier. Caution: with dry corks. They can get into the bottle if the monopoly is slowly injected under careful observation. When the cork starts to slide down, twist the corkscrew and lift it from where it is. This should lift the cork just enough for the blades to swing down a little more. Repeat this until you have enough material on the cork to pull it out. When not to use a monopoly: for wine closures made of cork and glue or all-plastic. Some of them put a lot of stress on the steel blades and the blades may break or bend. Maintenance: The blades are made of corrosion-prone carbon steel. After using the Monopoly, wipe any residue of wine off the blades and apply a thin coat of olive oil as you would with a thin stainless steel knife.
