Review on πŸ—ΊοΈ Exploring the World with Garmin eTrex 30 Handheld GPS Navigator by Steven Brouillard

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Lifetime eTrex user

I bought the original eTrex when it came out (it didn't have a basemap), its overall accuracy was 25-30 feet. Then came the eTrex Vista, which was a massive improvement with a minimal basemap and an accuracy of around 15-25 feet. patch cover. I bought an eTrex 30 along with a 100k topo map and was blown away! I've used these devices primarily for hiking and biking, the eTrex 30's accuracy is typically less than 10 feet and the amount of information on the map is pretty damn accurate. And battery life, which was less than 24 hours on previous models, is now calculated in days. Of course now that they have a memory card slot I put the topo map and waypoints on the memory card so they can be transferred. And not to mention that the screen is colored! The downside is that if you're not familiar with Garmin products, the manuals for the eTrex 10, 20, and 30 are identical, leaving out a lot of things. But so far Garmin customer support has been very helpful. And the cards are not included in the price, they are quite expensive and quite a hassle to install. Remember that the best way to know it is to put it into practice and use its different functions and settings.
