Tested immediately upon delivery by plugging into an outlet a few feet from our gas stove. I turned on the gas from a burner for about 5-10 seconds, and within 30 seconds of that, the alarm system notified me of "suspected gas leak". The voice is quite loud, but the sound of the alarm clock catches your ear at close range, so I have no doubt we'll hear it upstairs in the bedroom. Installing it was as easy as plugging it in, and it's fairly small and unattractive, making it a much better match for Kiddle's bulkier under-the-stove model.
