One day I realized that using composite RCA cables (from ROKU) in my old projector limited the resolution to 480p, so I researched dozens of HDMI too -VGA converters and chose . The first thing to look out for is the build quality. You can see this is very good. I then connected a ROKU HDMI cable to it, then a VGA cable from there to the projector's VGA port, and finally a 3.5mm audio cable from there to the projector's audio-in port. Showed my wife the RCA connection which looked great for a year, then showed the HDMI/VGA connection and she was blown away. Immediately the image quality was XGA, the highest I've ever seen on my projector and almost looked HD. The audio connection works great too. Although the overall volume or gain in dB will be less than a direct RCA audio connection. It can be the projector itself or the HDMI audio reality. It just means the max volume isn't as loud as it used to be. This is not negative. If I were to use the same setup as above, with the volume controlled by the projector, an outdoor movie night would require an amplifier or louder speakers. I use 2.1 computer speakers for the record and they are only 5 watts. The picture quality is amazing. Colors and contrast have improved in addition to the overall resolution. I was about to buy an HD projector but this amazing product improved my home theater so much it was almost impossible to tell the difference. Let me clarify the situation. This allows HDMI to be easily connected to a VGA port, so the maximum resolution depends on your individual projector. Since audio and video are also transmitted via HDMI, a separate audio output is provided for this. However, this will prevent devices from recognizing your projector as an HDMI device. HDMI has a coding language that is exchanged between devices and since it is HDMI-VGA, your device is considered a standard definition device. This means that the XBOX will not play at 1080p (which affects some features, such as the lack of multiplayer in Minecraft, in addition to the graphics). It's not a bug with this item, it's just how HDMI works. Tendak makes an HDMI connected version of this device that is smaller but will not work with ROKU due to the limited plastic space around the HDMI port. So I went with this design for the fit I wanted. It's worth thinking about. I highly recommend it. I would say that anyone who has a device with a VGA input will get one of these right away. You will be very happy with your results.
