For a king mattress under $300 I really can't complain about this mattress. The box it arrived in was torn but the mattress was still fully wrapped in plastic and completely undamaged. It was very nice to see it stretching and apart from the torn box it was packaged very well. It expanded to full size within an hour, but we still gave it the recommended 48 hours before sleeping on it. The smell of the mattress when you open it is very intense! Because of this, the whole room smelled so much of chemicals and plastic that we turned on the air purifier in the room while airing. That being said, even after airing it out for the recommended 48 hours and sleeping on it for three nights, it still has a weird chemical smell that found its way into the sheets and my pillow. It's not bad enough to cause a headache or anything, it's just something that's still noticeable and not exactly fresh. The edges of this bed are quite soft, so it's not designed to put your weight on the edge. The center of the bed is certainly firmer than the outer edges. If you tend to fall into the bed rather than climb in and weigh over 150 pounds, you'll feel the box spring (or base) underneath on impact before bouncing back up and lying down normally. The bed is comfortable at night but many reviews said it was very hard. My husband would give this bed a firmness rating of 4/10 (where 1 is very soft and 10 is very firm) and I would rate it a 6/10. We find it very soft compared to our old mattress. I'm really happy to see how it's holding up, but so far we're liking it. Update: after using the mattress for about 10 months it started to sag a lot on each side we sleep on. The middle stays fixed. Every day I wake up with lower back and lower back pain and a crunch in my neck. I wish we had a year or more of comfort from this mattress. We've even flipped it frequently to avoid this problem.
