One Man Towbar Curt Class 3 Installation

I recently purchased a Curt towbar for my 2014 Lexus RX 350. I have read many reviews written by other buyers and would highly recommend other potential buyers to do the same. While I agree that it's best to have two people do the installation, it can be done by one with a little advance planning. First, familiarize yourself with your car's lifting points. I used a jack to raise my car to a height where the wheels almost touched the floor of the garage. Second, temporarily prop up the 40-pound hitch on the driver's side. I accomplished this by placing a grocery box along with a Makita plastic tool box and a few pieces of wood to raise the hitch about 3/4" below the bracket on the car frame. I then removed the one with the frame on the passenger side the car's bolted muffler support rod. This made it much easier to get the hitch behind the muffler into the bolted position on the passenger side. Now move the hitch under the vehicle, lift the hitch up and place it on a makeshift stand With the coupler on the temporary bracket you created and the exhaust pipe support rod removed, carefully slide the passenger side of the coupler past the exhaust pipe into the bolted position and allow the coupler to rest temporarily on the exhaust pipe/muffler .Put the first Insert a 12mm bolt into the frontmost bolt hole on the passenger side and turn the bolt about four turns. Now it is important to reinstall the exhaust pipe support rod. If you were to screw the coupling to the frame in its final position, you will not be able to reinstall the exhaust support. After reinstalling the skid plate, pull out the first 12mm bolt leaving about 1/8" of contact with the frame. Now go to the driver's side and remove the hitch from the temporary bracket to align it with the foremost bolt hole and install the first 12mm bolt within 1/8" of the frame. The hitch is now secure enough that you can center the hitch in its final position before tightening the six 12mm bolts. If you want to reinstall the two tow hooks you will need to place them over the two remaining bolt holes on each side of the hitch. Don't worry about those 12mm bolts are long enough to accommodate a 1/4" thick hitch as well as the thickness of the frame. You are not finished with the installation until you have torqued the six 12mm screws to 89 ft-lbs. This is very important because even with conical washers, the bolts can loosen due to vehicle vibration and various impacts on the road surface. Overall, this is a fairly simple setup; The biggest problem, in my opinion, is replacing the plastic paneling under the body!
