Update: 10/15/22 DOA

Update: as of today 10/15/22 my original worries about these lights not being ready for outdoor use proved true. Despite my best efforts to conceal the power supply and control box from the elements they have failed. The lights are no longer getting power and the control box no longer has its LED light up. These lights are less than 2 months old and this unacceptable for product of this price. I’ve reached out to Govee and I’ve yet to hear back. There is a lot to like about these RGBIC string lights from Govee. Tons of colors patterns and presets for about any mood, event or occasion. Some of the presets seem a bit redundant though, like the same with just different colors. I wish there were options to play with the speed, colors and patterns of the presets is my first gripe. Instead you have to waddle through the DIY part of the app which can be confusing and cumbersome until you get used to it.Alexa control is something I still struggle with. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I’ve also had a few issues of it setting the bulbs to different colors than what I call out for. Like I’ll ask for pink and it gives me a blue.In my video I run through a few of the presets and the brightness at full and at minimum to give you an idea of how they look. I also scroll through the app as well.Speaking of the app, I personally find Govee tries to do too much with it. It’s an app, a store and a social community all wrapped in one. It’s not user friendly imho and I bit daunting. My main concern or complaint is the fact that these are listed as waterproof. While that is true of the bulbs themselves the same is not true for the power brick or controller. In my mind if you were going to list A product as weatherproof then that should apply to every inch of that product when that is how you are marketing it. So be sure to insulate the control box and shield it from any elements such as rain or snow because if it gets wet it is going to ruin the whole setup!I really do like the lights but I do have to takeoff two stars just for the simple fact that it cost me another 20 something dollars to get an outdoor waterproof box for the control box piece. I will say I rigged up a ziplock bag to protect it for awhile with no issues.

Pros
  • Easy to Install
Cons
  • May be prone to electrical shorts or sparks if not installed properly
