Every Christmas we bake cookies and make enough candy for all the neighbors. This is one of our favorite traditions. Candy making is pretty accurate, and after trying it by eye for a while and dripping the mixture into cold water, I finally broke down and bought a Taylor Precision Products candy/frie/jelly thermometer. After 10 years of use it still works great. WHAT I LIKE: • This thermometer is dishwasher safe! I don't understand why anyone would make something that can't be washed in the dishwasher these days! • My thermometer is accurate. • A pointer slides on the dial so I can see when my candy is at the right temperature. • The included clip secures the thermometer to the pot so I don't have to fiddle with it. • This thermometer measures the temperature accurately even when it is barely dipped in the candy. • It reacts quickly to temperature changes. • Good temperature range. I measured cooking yogurt at low temperature and used it to measure frying oil. WHAT I DON'T LIKE: • Sometimes it comes out of the dishwasher with a hazy face. It takes some time for the fog to clear. This is important enough to deduct a star from my rating when making multiple batches of candy in a short amount of time. PHOTO: I am attaching some photos of my 10 year old candy thermometer. this item. I really love my candy thermometer and will definitely be buying another one. Mine has been running for 10 years now and I expect it to last for quite some time!
