Tarnish easily, good for collars

This was a very pretty necklace for the first few weeks and received many compliments, but then the gold started to tarnish and now looks like silver. I only bought this necklace 3 months ago and it has never gotten wet. I expected a little more from a $50 dog chain. Such a waste. Oh, and I don't attach my dog's leash to the designated loop on the collar for fear it might come loose like some of the reviews I've read; I just tie the leash to the chain itself.
