Leather is soft and supple. The zippers work smoothly and feel solid. The exterior side pockets won't fit a large water bottle, but are deep enough to hold a narrow 12" water bottle. Enough pockets inside and out to keep this organization monster happy. Overall I am surprised and very happy with this purchase. I was not paid to write this review. I highly recommend this backpack. Update: The buckle that adjusts the strap is slipping out of position. The buckle will hold best if it stays on the leather part. my height is 5 feet 2 inches; For me, the buckle is closer to the end of the leather and it often slips off. If you're taller or carry your pack low, be prepared to adjust the straps frequently. That's not acceptable to me. I cannot recommend this backpack more highly.
