I actually have two Grayls - stainless steel and the one pictured - made from lighter weight BPA-free plastic. I've used both on my travels and drank water from different places with no problems. In Nepal I was able to stop at every tap and fill my bottle with water on the Annapurna Vista Trail. Not only was the water fantastic, the locals were also very interested and impressed. These grills have traveled to Thailand, Spain, Costa Rica and Iceland, as well as Nepal. I would like to have one for my previous travels! Since I bought the Grayl I will never travel without one and never have to worry about contributing to landfill with plastic water bottles. Filters last a long time and while they're a bit pricey, it's worth not worrying about the quality of your drinking water while doing your part to protect the planet.
