Very happy so far DMR/UHF HT

I'm new to amateur radio; I just received my ticket on June 30th this year. All the talk about local VHF/UHF repeaters (2 meters/70 centimetres) is DMR so I went with this radio first as it was the most common and had all the rave reviews. I explain that the DMR is one mile away from a standard UHF/VHF radio; Well, something like that. My first task was to find a good plugin code for my space. Found on a local club website. It even has Brand Meister (sp) programmed into it. By connecting to an external dual-band antenna, I easily reached the distant DMR repeaters. I later bought an antenna for the HT and now I can photograph it without an external antenna. I finally decided to drop by as well and see if I could program the UHF repeater into the radio. After watching a few videos on U-Tube I gave it a try and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Keep in mind that this isn't CHIRP so the programming software looks and feels alien, but it's pretty intuitive if you take your time and approach slowly. Despite all that, I really like this radio and will make it my "portable radio" as it can handle DMR/UHF with just a few clicks. I recommend investing in an aftermarket antenna as it will give you much more range and this for just a little money for a few bucks more i would recommend this radio to anyone looking to enter the DMR market without investing a lot of money in the process hope this helps someone and if you have any questions just reply with .KN4EIA
