Excellent DMR radio for the price

Excellent DMR radio for the price. I've read some complaints about programming software and I'm not sure what the problem is, I've had no problems at all. The radio itself works great with both DMR and analogue, and the RX is pretty damn good. The display is big and bright, and while it has two icons/symbols that take up a lot of space and serve no purpose, it's not bad overall. Love the fact that it has programmable side buttons, it gives the radio a professional look. It looks like a high-end

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Easy serviceability

Has lived up to its reputation for value for money

The TYT MD-380 was bought because of its reputation with other radio amateurs who use it to teach Digital Mobile Radio (DMR). This radio is my second DMR portable radio, the first being the Radioddity GD-77 which Revain offered me at a special time limited price. The TYT MD-380 DMR radio gives me the manufacturer's second approach to DMR. Business. The user programming software that comes with TYT also gives me a second example of how to accomplish this task. talkgroup AND TYT may use community

Great first radio DMR

I've had this radio for about two weeks. As a new DMR user, it took me a few days to understand the difference between zone, channel, contact, codeplug, etc. Online product groups helped me, as did some local users. My first attempt to download MD380 Tools failed and the radio got locked with an unknown password. TYT technical support sent me a phone unlock file within 12 hours. I realized that I had downloaded MD380 ToolZ instead of ToolS and after carefully watching Youtube videos on how to…

Very happy so far DMR/UHF HT

I'm new to amateur radio; I just received my ticket on June 30th this year. All the talk about local VHF/UHF repeaters (2 meters/70 centimetres) is DMR so I went with this radio first as it was the most common and had all the rave reviews. I explain that the DMR is one mile away from a standard UHF/VHF radio; Well, something like that. My first task was to find a good plugin code for my space. Found on a local club website. It even has Brand Meister (sp) programmed into it. By connecting to an…

Excellent introduction to DMR in Portable Audio & Video

I heard about DMR on site. At the end of last year I watched several videos on You Tube and became interested in this mode. At the last meeting of the radio club, the local guru of the DMR repeater system gave a presentation, which interested me even more. I was ready to pull the trigger but hesitated a bit. Then an even better offer came and I grabbed the guy. I had listened to the Brandmeister Hoseline a bit beforehand and wasn't particularly enthusiastic about the sound, but I blamed it on…

Excellent radio, best in radios

Well the last one I ordered and bought from Revain lasted a day. After some hesitation I bought another one. It has so many great reviews all over the internet. Everyone convinced me, my last one was an accident. This one impresses me. I live in southeastern Wisconsin. Yesterday I spoke to a gentleman in Dallas, Texas and one on the Isle of Man near Scotland. Today I was speaking to a cell phone in Chatanooga, Tennessee. and a man in Michigan. The sound quality is phenomenal! Sounds like…

Pros
  • Solid build
Cons
  • Nothing here

Just discovered a DMR radio and it seems to be the entry point into the DMR network due to the price. I had no idea what to expect from DMR and if I would like it, so it just wasn't worth spending a lot of money on DMR radios. Now that I've been listening to some of the popular talkgroups, almost everyone seems to have them, and so many people use them for their daily radio. They seem to be very common at DMR. I ordered one from Revain and the first one I received had a hardware issue. The…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model

Current versions of the supplied UHF radio MD-380 (at least from September 2018) are delivered with firmware version D014.004. Radios shipped with firmware D014.004 cannot currently be upgraded to use the experimental MD380Tools firmware. The Tools firmware and the UserDb load fine but the radio does not receive anything on DMR when the MD380Tools firmware is loaded. This is well documented on the KD4Z Facebook page. There appears to be a small hardware difference between these newer radios and
