Some Information Required Best in Power Water Pumps

Some Information Required Seeing this type of inconsistency in reviews makes me wonder why some people get such poor results. They are said to do something very wrong for such a product not to work properly. However, my experience with the Wayne RUP160 1/6 HP Oil Free Submersible Water Pump was not. 3000 GPH makes me appreciate both positive and negative feedback. First of all according to the manufacturer: 1. At least Β½ inch of water is required to prime and run the pump. The pump should not run when the water level is 3/8 inch or less3. There is no mention that "floor suction can deliver water within 1/8 inch of the surface"4. A 1-1/4 inch drain hose should be used. Despite 3/4 inch. adjustable drain adapter that connects to a standard garden hose. I did not find in the list that the garden hose fits6. Do not run the pump dry. The shaft seal relies on water for lubrication. Running the pump without water will damage the shaft seal and cause pump failure. After finding a 'safe room' in our temporarily rented home that had about an inch of standing water next to my bedroom, I settled on this pump. for pumping water into a 2 foot storage tank (this was after purchasing larger drain pumps including a Little Giant 6-CIA, 1/3 liter water from a 1 Β½ inch hose). I bought this pump with the remnants of a 15' Apex #REM 15 connector hose (which was listed as 5/8"x 15'") connected to a garden shed adapter, put it in the water and turned it on. I could hear the pump running but nothing came out of my 15 foot hose lying on the floor. To be sure, I put the pump in a 12" bucket of water and still no water came out. Feeling embarrassed and feeling like this room would never be dry, I removed the hose, dropped the foot pump back into 1 inch of water and the Presto water started flying at least 4 or 5 feet and out of the pump bounce off the wall. I decided the 15ft hose was too long and cut it off, but still no luck. I kept trimming the garden shed until it was about 12-18 inches and finally got enough water to fill my holding tank. Note that I haven't connected it to the 1-1/4" exhaust hose yet. So my key takeaways would be: 1. Be sure to consider using a 1-1/4" exhaust hose for good results2 . If you want to keep the water level consistently below Β½", consider a different pump3. Fill the pump at least Β½"4 with water. Remember, the pump must not be allowed to run dry. Addendum: See story above July 2009 I removed the garden hose adapter and 3/8" garden hose and used a 1-1/4" 24ft Little Giant SDHK114 drain hose kit for a 1-1/4" drain pump, and what a difference this little pump quickly pumped water to a height of at least 10-12 feet with no issues so I'm increasing my rating to 4 stars and emphasizing: 1. Use a 1 1/42 outlet hose Minimum water level 3 /8 to 1/2 in. 3. Do not run dry and die Pump does not switch off automatically4. I would forget the garden hose and garden hose adapter.
