it functions, basically, as described. when the slides are extended the sun is blocked therefore it functions. my complaint is more of a personal opinion about overall quality verses cost. this is simply 2 thin pieces of plastic slides sandwiched between to slightly thicker pieces of plastic. when the slides are extended they are flimsy and do bounce around. reality is this is something that will not be used a great deal since its only needed at certain times of day and direction you travel. its simply a product that price should reflect quality.
