Unlike many counterfeit "chargers" that simply apply a source voltage to the battery (5VDC from USB will charge a Baofeng 7.4V battery NOT on), this cable brings the ACTIVE voltage to the correct level. I have measured the voltage with a multimeter on both the connector and charging pins and the voltage is fine. However, increasing the low voltage of the USB source reduces the amperage, so charging from a USB source takes significantly longer than from a 110 volt "wall wart". But it's a good option for times when 110VAC isn't available. I am an Associate Amateur, HAM Instructor and Club President. I recommend this product if you need a USB charging function with a charger.
