i read the description but was not really visualizing how small this is. i have german shepherds, and it basically carries enough water for one of my dogs to have two drinks from on a two hour hike. they need more than that, but that was my fault for not realizing how small it was. i am sure this would do fine for a tiny dog.it locks closed securely, and when you unlock it, the water comes into the drinking cup easily and smoothly. i like the feature that lets the left over water flow back into the water bottle. it doesn't leak. it is a weird shape, though -- kind of bulbus so that it does not fit comfortably into either of the two water bottle pockets on my dog walking gear.
