Good retention function, but not good enough - lots of coffee sediment goes through

, the sediment goes through the filter and into your cup. I have a quality burr grinder and I need to set it to the middle of "medium" to get a grind that doesn't pass through the filter. However, this grinding method requires the coffee to be really brewed and not skipped, so I end up with a watery coffee. Pure Over Coffee (or any automatic drip coffee with a cone filter) should be brewed with "fine" ground coffee. For this reason I cannot recommend this for coffee. I've found other uses for it though, so I think it deserves a few stars for that (straining the pulp and seeds, etc.). There are also a few other features that I *really* like. First, it is very easy to clean. Other brands with 2 filter layers tend to trap sediment between the filters (regardless of WHAT they claim). The fact that it's a single layer means it's easy to clean. In addition, the base can be easily removed for cleaning and storage. This allows it to also be used as a strainer for other items inside the funnel (e.g. straining the pulp and seeds of lemons). Also, the base is a bit wider than many other brands at just over 4 inches, which means I *finally* found a filter that works with my fancy handcrafted cappuccino cups (sorry I ended up with a tonne train )! The base is also coated in silicone to keep it from slipping. This is a nice feature, but be careful when wiping the base with your hand as the silicone headband comes off fairly easily and isn't easy to put back on.

Pros
  • Industry best
Cons
  • Almost never use less than one grind media
