I bought these drying balls on a whim and am very happy with them. They are firm but soft and about the size of a large orange or small grapefruit. They are a staple in my dryer and help keep my clothes soft and as long as I don't overload the dryer they really help reduce drying time. I don't think they'll be that useful for speeding up the drying time of say a king size duvet as the dryer is just too crowded for the dryer balls to bounce around much. Yes, they bounce and add extra noise to the drying cycle, but because they're soft it doesn't look like you're tennis shoes clattering or anything, but it will be a little louder and you'll hear them clatter. An added and unexpected bonus is that these balls of yarn pull dog hair away from my clothes! On any given day I have at least 4 Samoyeds (very hairy white dogs) and 2 pure white cats who are determined to keep as much hair on my clothes as possible. So I know about hairy clothes! They don't leave my underwear without fur, but there has been a noticeable reduction since I've been using them. I have also successfully added flavoring oils to dryer balls. While it's probably best not to use heat with essential oils, I haven't used them for therapeutic purposes, just to test how well the scents transfer. This works pretty well and I've had odors that linger after several loads of laundry. Just make sure that the oils are well absorbed by the wool before drying, otherwise you will spread real oils on the laundry and not just the smell. In general I like these things. Just be aware that they can get tangled in the linens and I "lost" one for a while because it was wrapped in a sheet and I didn't notice.
