There are a few important things to know about this Garden of Life Whey Protein. 1) It contains ingredients other than whey protein. It uses milk protein in addition to whey protein (they are different). The ratio is 85% whey isolate, 15% milk protein. For those new to whey protein, there are 2 types. Whey concentrate is the original structure of whey and contains a small amount of carbohydrate sugar and fat (about 1-2 grams each). Whey isolate is a filtered form of whey concentrate from which sugar and fat have been removed. The isolate is essentially pure protein. 2) Garden of Life Whey Protein contains fillers that make the drink slightly thicker than a 100% whey protein drink. Anyone who has tried 100% Whey Concentrate or 100% Whey Isolate knows that the powder mixes with water to form a cloudy white drink that looks a lot like water. Whey does not thicken water. Garden of Life added a variety of plant fibers, plant gum and plant lecithin to thicken the drink. The Garden of Life method isn't very thick - it feels about the same as skim milk. However, it is noticeably thicker than 100% whey. The big question is how do these fillers affect digestion? Garden of Life Whey absorbs more slowly than both forms of 100% Whey (isolate absorbs faster than concentrate). The feeling in the stomach is not as heavy as with a plant-based protein drink. But it's heavier than 100% whey. As a result, Garden of Life Whey gives a feeling of satiety. My Thoughts: For those looking to drink a pre-workout or mid-workout drink, stick with 100% Whey Isolate. For a drink after training. if you want the fastest protein absorption, stick with 100% Whey Isolate; If you want to feel full to prepare for your next meal, then this Garden of Life Serum is for you. These filler ingredients are: Organic Tapioca Fiber (IMO), Organic Gum Arabic, Sunflower Lecithin 3) Tastes very sweet. Garden of Life added some sweeteners to this serum to keep it from smelling like whey. I find it tastes more like an artificially flavored milkshake. People with typically American taste buds will probably love artificial vanilla or chocolate flavors. I tried both flavors. 100% Whey tastes like unsweetened, heavily diluted milk. Garden of Life Whey tastes strong. Sweeteners used: organic erythritol, sea salt, organic stevia extract (leaf). When I first drank Garden of Life Whey I was overwhelmed by the taste. I don't eat candy or any "standard American food". I eat whole, organic foods with minimal natural sugars. Most of my carbohydrates come from plant fibers. This Garden of Life drink almost knocked me out. Still, I wanted to try this drink. and after 2 days my taste buds adjusted. The drink was still the hottest item on my menu, but it didn't overwhelm me. I still found it very sweet. I don't think most people will be as depressed as I am. Most people eat sugary foods throughout the day. The average shopper will likely appreciate this Garden of Life Whey and help them stay away from more harmful sugary foods. My Final Thoughts I plan to keep using this container until it's empty. I doubt I will buy another container in the future. I've been using 100% whey isolate and 100% whey concentrate (no fillers, no sweeteners, herbal cows) for years and enjoy a bit of a bland taste. I don't have any digestive problems when taking Garden of Life Whey, but I admit that my stomach feels Garden of Life Whey more. and I prefer not to feel my serum before or during a workout. I also want better intake and practice simple food combinations in my diet. For these reasons, I will not include this Garden of Life Whey in my menu. However, I can recommend it to others who are not on such a thin diet or have strict personal preferences. If you like vanilla or chocolate milkshakes, you'll love this Garden of Life Whey Protein.
