I've been hiking since my time in the US Marine Corps for over thirty years so I appreciate the advances and advances in technical outdoor gear - we introduced cotton socks and t-shirts in the 80's! So I'm always on the lookout for the best gear and based on so many rave reviews I thought this brand of socks would be an improvement over the SmartWool Merinos I've worn over the past few years. It just wasn't the case. Case in point: A few weeks ago I hiked in Yosemite, from the Glacier to Yosemite Village and back on a four mile trail wearing SW socks and Merrell Moabs. As usual, no problem. Today, while hiking in Marin County, wearing the same boots, laces, and backpack, I developed friction rashes on both heels and the outside of both ankles, and blisters that started on both big toes. These socks are thin, do not absorb moisture at all and do not breathe. Pretty disappointing in this price range.
