Review on πŸ”§ KD Tool 86229 Wrench: The Ultimate Multi-Purpose Wrench for Every Project by Kaveen Reyes

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Pleased with this price.

Despite the rating I keep them simply because they don't fulfill a role of Icon and Tekton. However, the metal finish and chrome finish lag far behind other Taiwan-made wrenches like the Icon, the Husky Pro, the Capri, and the (Taiwan-made) Craftsman. I would give Gearwrench a 7/10 for chrome prep and a 6/10 for chrome and polish. There are a few nicks/gaps/waves on the metal which they polished to create a smooth surface for the chrome, but the chrome exacerbates these pre-machining flaws. There is also a small spot on part of the chrome as if the chemical left some faint spots/patterns. Besides that. Although my wrenches were fully wrapped in Gearwrenche plastic wrappers, they had many small scratches as if they had received some serious treatment even after the chrome plating process. Keep in mind that this doesn't affect the performance of the key, but given the premium price I was expecting better metal prep, better chrome and less machining marks. Icon, Husky Pro, Tekton, Capri, and Craftsman (made in Taiwan to name a few) have much better finishes. Also, 4 of these keys do not have a straight shank and are either bent or slightly twisted. Some of them are unevenly sized, forming waves along the top or bottom of the beam. (I just couldn't get a picture of it) Finally, the tension on the flex head is extremely uneven, with some of them being quite stiff and others being a bit loose. What I liked better about the Gearwrench flex head ratchet compared to the Icon flex head. Ratchet, 1) long length 2) wedge drive 3) tension adjustable flex head hex drive 4) corner loading open end, ratchet design with 120xp teeth. What I like most about Icon. Almost flawless metalwork, absolutely precise cut and one of the highest quality chrome finishes I have ever seen. The best part was that they were all perfectly straight. Precise dimensions and tight tolerances were definitely high on Icon's priority list (at least for the lot I bought). The quality is closer to snap-on than any other button I own. and a microfiber cloth before photographing. Small patterns/cuts/scratches on chrome are not towel lint but real imperfections in the chrome. It was extremely difficult to photograph these imperfections in the chrome finish and these issues are understated in the photos. It's even worse for the human eye.
