Review on Focal Celestee: Premium Closed-Back Over-Ear Wired Headphones - Superior Sound Quality and Luxurious Comfort by Ivy Guerrero

Much improvement over Elegia

I've had my Celestee for a little over a month. The first thing that struck me was how much better the pads seal. The material feels very comfortable. The headband has a nicer suede material covering the bottom of the headband compared to the Elegia. The design and comfort are a step up from the Elegia. Also, the Celestee cables aren't as uncompromisingly stiff as the fabric-wrapped Elegia and Clear cables, but unfortunately they still retain that rigid, curved shape. The wearing comfort is very good. Like other Focus headphones. First impressions are that the bass has better extension than the Elegia but is still neutral and not clipped. The mids are not as forward as the Elegia and are much more linear. HF is warmer than Elegy. I have yet to determine exactly how much warmer. So far I like them, but they do something different and unique that I can't figure out yet. Also, the Celestee sound just as open as the Elegia, if not more so. That's good because it was the only feature that made me fall in love with the Elegia when I owned it. The port is more open on the earcups, and blocking it completely changes the sound. They are more semi-closed than real closed ones. The Elegia had a small port under the Focal logo on the cups, but the Elegia's cup material was a more durable plastic. The Celestee cup material is more like the Stellia with that leathery look. I can see how disappointed someone would be if they thought it was a transparent closed back. Clears have a mid-bass hump and a small peak in the upper-mids that give them character. They don't have either, but Celestee's tonality, timbre, and technical prowess are vastly superior to Elegia's. It kind of makes the difference between Elegia and Clear imo. They're still narrow and have an intimate soundstage like most Focals stuff, but the main difference I've noticed so far is that the upper mids aren't as front-firing and don't have that metal edge like the other Focals. Can I recommend Celestee? Yes, unless the prospective buyer expects a different customized version of Elegia or Clear. A buyer without crazy expectations for what they are will be very happy with them. They really are their own headphones. They have similarities to other Focal headphones, but they're certainly not just an Elegia with improved cushion sealing, as some have wrongly claimed.
