I have encountered the same problem with this bark guard box as with the Dogtek Sonic bird house I bought many years ago. He has to make an awkward noise even in silence because my dogs in the house go as far away from him as possible. If I turn it off, they return out of sight. I know it doesn't feel like it to me - I supposedly didn't activate a trusty dog that stayed on my lap when this thing was on, and his breathing was fast and short, his heart was pounding and he was shaking. If I hadn't offered a free circle, neither he nor my Queensland healer would have stayed in the room with me. These dogs usually always have Velcro on my ankles. I had a Dogtek when I had a lap dog and another dog and if I turned on the device and forgot about it they would eventually go up with their ears back and I realized it was supposed to make an ultrasonic sound even if the house was quiet. I think I should ditch the idea of having a stationary device that only "punishes" barking when my dogs actually bark.
