I wanted a set of Christmas lights that could be controlled via Arduino. I've had success with WS2811 Alitive addressable tapes using this method and thought they would be compatible as well. Unfortunately, they use their own connection method. When connecting a data output to an Arduino-based controller, the first LED simply flickers to the beat of the WS2811 commands. Connecting the included "Dream Color" controller to the Alitove WS2811 strip will fry the first pixel (otherwise the strip will work) and this controller is not sold separately by Atove. I ended up buying pixel bulbs from another company that also worked great with my Arduino. This wouldn't be a problem if the included controller could set a static pattern of 2 or 3 alternating colors, but it can't. The 200+ patterns available through the app are useless in this regard. This would be good lighting if you just want a static color or RGB rainbow in "party mode" but can't do something as simple as red+green for traditional Christmas colors.
