I bought this scanner because it can scan text. I work for a newspaper and use it often. It recognizes characters much better than the scanner I used to use at work. It takes a little longer to scan a page, but scans documents that an old scanner would turn into a mess. Although I've read reviews complaining about the noise from this scanner, I've found that it actually makes less noise than the one I've been using at work. I would give it five stars but it does have a few things that bother me. Sometimes a window pops up during the scan asking if I want to update the software. I haven't found a way to stop this yet. Sometimes I scan a page and it finds an error and refuses to copy more than one paragraph into a Word document. I end up having to rescan the page from this section onwards. Rescanning is also an issue as I have to close Omnipage every time I scan a new page or open multiple pages when reusing the same window would be more efficient. Overall this is a great scanner for the price. I use it to scan multiple documents about 3 times a week and I'm glad I bought it. Certainly better than typing everything!
