I wear Mephisto Hurricanes made in Portugal. They appeared many years ago and came in a brown Mephisto box. The inner lining and insoles are soft like bison leather in a contrasting tan hue. The insoles are comfortably padded and the tongue is thick and soft. The collar of the boot is lightly padded. They feel great. The laces look good and are well shaped. I just bought the same Mephisto Hurricanes from Amazon half a size up. Surprisingly, they were also made in Portugal. They came without a box but I assume they are from the current batch of Mephistos, probably the current greyish box with a navy blue lid. The inner lining and insoles are made of good leather, but not the soft velvety leather of the old version. There is no lining around the collar of the shoe. The color of the inner lining of the shoe is similar to the color of the walnut wood on the outside of the shoe. The insole didn't have the cushioning of my old ones, instead the inside of the shoe is stiff and thin; looks like a regular $75 boat shoe. The smoothness they are known for wasn't there. The tongue is thin, the skin is as if doubled, but without seals between them. The laces are poor quality leather or they could just be very dry and twisted. The Mephistos are known to be half a size larger, but they looked more like full-size, and with the weak internal construction, they seemed really tall. Online photos of Mephisto Hurricanes look sick, but these looked scruffy. I was thinking of taking photos showing the differences between the old and new pair but instead I just wanted to get them back quickly. Excuse me. It was a complete disappointment and no one in the world should pay $350 for the quality of the ones I got.
