This Dorman product (13778) WORKS on an UNLISTED 1999 JGC! See also the missing programming instructions! READ PLEASE.

Works great with factory and aftermarket remotes. My 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee isn't listed in the description, website or packaging but I was confident it would work so I took a chance and ordered it. As it turned out, I was right. However, I found that the guide was missing important information that I had found out myself. I would like to share that. When adding a remote control, another working remote control (if any) will lose connection and will need to be reinstalled. Each remote control must be installed during ONE PROGRAMMING SESSION. Also, you can choose ANY REMOTE, ANY COLOR (aftermarket or factory) to install as first driver (black) or second driver (grey). REMOTE CONTROL COLOR DOES NOT MATTER. It's important to follow the programming instructions in order, otherwise it won't work. Turn on the ignition (DO NOT START THE ENGINE), plug the programmer into the OBD/DLC port and listen for the programming mode beep. Simultaneously press and hold the UNLOCK and LOCK buttons on either remote for 3 seconds (to put the remote into programming mode), PRESS EITHER DRIVER'S FIRST BUTTON (black) OR DRIVER'S BUTTON TWO (grey). THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. Then press the UNLOCK button on the remote control for 2 seconds. Repeat with the second remote, but this time by pressing the remaining driver's button on the door. After you have finished programming both fobs, TURN THE IGNITION OFF BEFORE UNPLUGING THE PROGRAMMER. After you turn off the programmer, you must WAIT 2 MINUTES before pressing any buttons on the remotes, then test the remotes to make sure they both work and that the correct driver numbers are selected. If one or more don't work, repeat the whole process again. Sounds more complicated than it is. This entire process takes about a minute or two (not counting the 2 minute wait). If a remote still doesn't work, check to see if the battery or batteries are dead (some remotes use one CR2032 or two 3V CR2016 batteries), replace if necessary, and clean each battery and remote contacts with it alcohol or contact cleaners. Avoid fingerprints. Also make sure they are installed correctly. It is easy to install in reverse. neg. collides with the back cover and pos. Face up to the board. I hope that was helpful. Keep in mind that this programmer costs a lot less to buy than dealers and can be used on your or any other vehicle on the list if needed. I recommend this Dorman product and make it myself. It's a lot easier than it looks!
