Bad stitching, probably

I wouldn't recommend hanging this from the back of a car hoping the strap will hold. I put our dealer tag inside and attached it to the rear window (it helps keep the tag visible). One day as I was removing the panel I noticed the strap had fallen apart! Can the sun make it worse? I haven't had it for so long.
