I had a large stack of extra laptop hard drives laying around so I ordered two different UGreen cases and two other brands. Everything worked great on the first day. The next time I tried to use them, NONE of the UGreen cases, including this one, worked with USB 3. When I switched it to a USB 2 port, it worked fine. I thought it could be the cable? If you are familiar with USB 3 and USB 2 cables, you know that it can be perfectly wired for 2 and still have broken wires for 3, so yes, different cables. As an IT guy, I usually have lots of extra cables to play around with. Changing the cable didn't help. In fact, the cables in question were then tested on OTHER devices and had good USB 3 connections, even the cables that came with the UGreen drives, so I have to say these drives come with the correct cables, but the enclosures themselves are questionable. I used my Linux desktop to test this. I then moved the drives to my Linux laptop just in case it was a driver issue, same story. I then transferred the drives to a Windows 10 laptop - just in case it was a serious kernel-level driver issue. The Windows machine was the same as the Linux machine. USB 2 worked but not 3. With a "Micro 3.0" drive, it didn't matter if I just used a Micro or a Micro 3.0 cable, as long as I plugged it into a 2.0 port it worked. If I wanted to use the 3.0 port on the laptop, I had to use a Micro 2.0 cable. In the case of a USB-connected drive, all I had to do was plug it into a 2.0 port or use a "charge-only" cable, which is technically a 2.0 cable connected to USB-C. I wish they didn't even make them. I have to say that I liked the overall case design and ease of use. Too bad the electronics inside are junk. I DO NOT RECOMMEND UGREEN.
