This was a big improvement over the plastic cone our 85lb Golden Pyrenees came home with after being neutered. She's a restless girl who gnaws on everything, including drywall. Wearing the pubic cone greatly increased her anxiety. Despite additional sedatives, her only task upon returning home was to remove the cone and prevent it. It took her less than two hours to find a solution. We rushed to the pet store to find an alternative - a soft-walled cone with plastic inserts - but luckily we ordered that one too. Despite Revane's speedy delivery, it took a while to arrive as trying to remove it had rubbed the soft-sided cone and broken the plastic panels. This collar was the easiest of the three for her to put on, and while still unlucky, it was clearly the most preferred option. She really could see again! Eating and sleeping is easier for us (although it made her snore like crazy) and while she still stumbled from the donut's large diameter, it bothered her less because it was so soft. Her fear subsided. Still, she wanted to take it off. Her efforts, though less diligent, resulted in her chewing the strap in two within 48 hours. She put the already loosened end of the donut in her mouth, chewed on it, pierced the insert and blew off the collar. The recovery collar has evolved into a less-than-snazzy scarf. However, the hole was repaired and we fiddled with additional Velcro to secure the strap. We prided ourselves on getting them back into this donut pretty quickly. But in the middle of the night, she undid the strap and, without removing the collar around her neck, began the next destructive project: undoing the seams. Just in case, she made another hole in the liner. Luckily she made enough noise to wake us up and we redoubled our efforts and got the collar fixed before she seriously injured her stomach. I believe this would be an excellent choice for most dogs and it was the best we tried for our difficult patient. It would be even more problematic if we had to leave them unattended. Despite the shabby condition I will wash it and keep it where the other two were disposed of in case it is needed again. I wish there was a better way to secure the strap, especially since velcro tends to collect fur. A hook and eye such as B. a belt, or plastic fasteners such. B. Many dog collars can work.
