I bought the Engel HD30 Soft cooler after careful research including many comparisons to YETI and other similar coolers. Engel has a 4.5 day period during which the ice remains frozen and the contents remain cold. I bought the Engel HD 30 in July but didn't use it until October. After taking the novelty out of the box, I used a vacuum nozzle to remove warm air from the sides, took it to the store and bought sodas, bottled water, and loaded at least 15 pounds of ice in the cooler before sealing it . We then drove 8 hours to Naples, Florida where the cool box was in an air conditioned car. About an hour after we arrived I opened the fridge and found that it had already started to melt. In the morning there was a significant melt. Engel has a 1 year guarantee so I contacted them with my findings. Initially I was told I had to have at least 35 pounds of ice, sodas and bottled water that needed to be pre-chilled and I would have received 4.5 days. When I asked how many drinks would fit on 35 pounds of ice? They stated that considering the drinks weren't pre-chilled and were much larger than 15-20 pounds of ice, the result of a 1.5 day freeze was what I should have expected. They did not agree to replace this cooler with another one, they allowed me to choose another cooler (hard model) and pay the difference, as they said that an exchange is not possible after 30 days, even if they used on a trip. Don't waste money and don't believe false promises of 4.5 days. Don't rely on Engel's guarantee either. They just don't cover customer service.
