The Carson Adventure Pak is a great birding kit for kids. 5x30 binoculars that are good for bird watching and for kids. Less magnification means less "handshake" and a more stable image. Also, these binoculars are smaller, which is good for young hands. Most of the items in this adventure set feel solid and well made. The binoculars cable is flimsy but seems durable. The only problem I've found so far is that the thermometer on the whistle doesn't work. I bought two sets at a time (one for each of my kids) and both thermometers always read 80 degrees, even in our home. I will not be returning these kits due to a defective thermometer. The main purpose of this purchase was to give your kids a decent pair of binoculars, everything else was just a bonus. Equipment: Binoculars (5x30) with folding eyecups and lanyard, whistle with built-in thermometer, flashlight, compass, lens cleaning cloth and carrying case for all items. Pros: The binoculars work well and are durable. The flashlight works and seems to be durable enough for my kids. in which direction we go. A tote bag is a MUST for kids to keep all items together. It's made of thin material but I don't think my kids will rip or rip it anytime soon (they are 7 and 9 years old). one worked). The tote bag has no shoulder strap. It has a loop for wearing on a belt and a wrist strap is sewn into the main compartment of the bag, but my kids don't usually wear straps and the wrist strap creates a bulky nuisance that dangles from the wrist as they try to make birds watch. It would be better if the tote bag had a shoulder strap. I gave this product 5 stars despite the two negatives I listed. This was a great purchase for my kids and they are all happy to have their first pair of binoculars. It was great to see my son run to the binoculars when he saw a large cattle egret land in our front yard this morning. I also bought Fun With Nature (Take-Along Guide). This book, combined with the Carson Adventure Pak, will help any child explore the great outdoors while having fun. I recommend both purchases!
