I submitted a question about using this to make larger holes from pre-drilled pearls and gemstones, and it works for pearls.

Granted, I don't use a lot of pressure to expand the hole, but I haven't had any crack! I haven't used the vice yet, but my thumb and finger are sore from the 15-20 stones I did hold while drilling. The drill bits come in a great case showing the mm of the drill bit, so you can keep the bits organized! Overall, very happy with the purchase!
