Review on πŸ” Canon 16-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens (9518B002) – Black: Exceptional Quality and Clarity by Jasmit Insha ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I am satisfied with the product, I recommend it to everyone.

First impressions were purely positive. The resolution of the lens in the center at focal lengths 28-35 is almost indistinguishable from what is visible across the field and in the corners of the frame, except that in the very corners there is some blurring, but completely in the corners. In this case, this lens is as good as my Sigma 35 / 1.4 Art and Canon EF 28 / 2.8 IS at their respective apertures (usually f / 7.1) when mounted on a Canon EOS 5D Mark III. This allows you to print 40x60 cm photos. The work of the image stabilizer in my hands did not quite justify itself. Stability started somewhere from 1/10 second and shorter. 1/4 with a treacherously 50% probability gave blur, that is, if you do several takes, then a successful shot is obtained. The stabilizer did a disservice in the sense that in the range of focal lengths of 16-20 mm, probably due to its incorrect operation, approximately a quarter of the left side of the frame is blurred with enviable constancy. Establish some kind of cause-and-effect relationship of the stabilizer on / off, refocused, etc. with a good frame (sharpness over the entire field) could not be found. However, when the stabilizer is parked "as it should", then the picture at 16 mm is very, very good, which is great for zoom, and not only. The focal range of 21-27mm behaves quite well. Vignetting and chromatic aberration is an amateur search. This has never bothered me. It is worth noting that this lens is also good on crop, because it gives out the equivalent of 25 / 26-56 mm, which in many cases is enough if you still stock up with a telephoto lens. On my 7D, this lens performed very well. ... In part, I purchased this lens not as a landscape lens, but for shooting Moscow at night and shooting in the metro. The lens in this regard, due to the presence of a stabilizer, did well and perfectly. ... I rated "4" precisely because of the unstable characteristics at the widest angle.

Pros
  • Good constructive. All-weather. Stabilizer. Possibility of installation of 77 mm filters. Very high image quality not only for zoom, but in general, especially in the 28-35 mm focal range, especially since Canon does not have good primes in the 16-23 mm range.
Cons
  • Still massive, which affects the long walks. Liquid complete bag for carrying. The effectiveness of the stabilizer was not so great. Ineffective hood. Unstable field resolution from frame to frame in the 16-20 mm focal range, probably due to incorrect operation / parking of the image stabilization component.

An adapter to RF with a polarizer to it - that's it
