I have had an Opal granular ice maker for many years. It worked when it was in the mood and needed frequent cleaning. Yes, I used distilled water. The ice melted quickly as the machine had no cooling mechanism. Eventually, Opal died an unfortunate death. Went to the landfill. After searching Revain for days looking for something that would give me crunchy ice cream, I found this Ice Cube Crusher. I always have ice from the ice maker in my freezer, so dumping the ice into the hopper was quick and easy. You can adjust the thinness of the ice. It seemed to me that the factory settings suit me. It was nice to pour iced tea over a glass of chewy ice. I hope the blades will last as they are aluminum and not stainless steel. With my light usage (I'm the only ice addict) this should last a while.
