Review on 🐾 PetSafe Freedom Aluminum Pet Door - Interior & Exterior Dog and Cat Door - Sturdy Frame & Tinted, Flexible Flap - Easy Installation - Large/X-Large Sizes by Mike Mahfood

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Easy to install but not exactly energy efficient or weatherproof.

This replaced the smaller door on a storm door that had a dog door built into it (my golden retriever had trouble with the other door). This one works better for them. Installation was easy. Use a jigsaw to cut a larger hole (template provided). Drill 6 holes for nuts and bolts. append A note: my door came with 5 nuts and 4 screws. not quite suitable for 6 holes. So I used the nuts and bolts I already had. The instructions say x-large should have 6 or each. So maybe a quality control issue? And the last note: the plastic bolts that come with the door. Maybe to be able to easily shorten them as needed? I do not know. I used metal screws. Overall, I like the door and the hatch. But where the replacement valve is fitted, the holes (for adjustment) are larger than the bolts that hold it, you can see light coming through each of the holes, so it's not exactly weatherproof. Also, to be honest, the flap isn't very thick. and it doesn't close after being fully used all the time, so I can't say it's energy efficient. I bought this for a new screen room we added to our house so I didn't need high energy efficiency (or weather protection). but I can't give it good marks for energy efficiency or weather resistance.
