I've used them for about 12 nights and found them to work on all soil types except sand. They definitely hold the tarp and tent in place well. The only thing that bothered me was the plastic ties on the ends. They were more fragile than expected and started to come loose. About 1/4 of them suffered the same fate from two different sets. I contacted the company just to buy more plastic end rails - not to win something for free. We were happy with the prices ourselves. To my surprise, the company was very quick to respond and just sent me a brand new set! It was very generous, but I hope the new set doesn't suffer the same fate, or we'll look for plastic parts again in time. I won't drive them too low either. In summary I am very satisfied and grateful for their customer service, the metal part of the prices but I doubt the plastic. A few final important notes, they are not lightweight and I would not recommend them for camping while hiking. Try these for car camping and the like. It's probably best not to drive them all the way in to allow the plastic parts to slide down when driving/pulling.
